Cozumel

 

Situated in front of Playa del Carmen, Cozumel is a teardrop shaped island boasting beautiful dives on drop-offs and shallow colorful reefs along the 2nd largest barrier reef in the world. Called Ah-Cuzamil Peten (land of the swallows) by its earliest inhabitants, Cozumel has been a favorite destination for divers since 1961, when Jacques Yves Cousteau’s documentary broadcast Cozumel’s amazing sea life to the world.

Every day we depart from the dive center in Playa del Carmen to take the 9:00 ferry to the beautiful island of Cozumel. On arrival the diving boat will be ready and waiting to take us to the first of two amazing dives. Depending on weather conditions the first dive maybe made on the famous Santa Rosa wall. This dive at 30m/100ft boasts large sponges and many different types of coral along with its amazing vertical drop off and crystal clear waters. Keep a keen eye out into the deep blue, to spot large pelagic fish and sometimes sharks patrolling the area.
Along the wall, apart from the amazing corals, you will see lobsters, large crabs, groupers, giant moray eels, turtles and much more.

During the surface interval we will have a break on one of the beautiful beaches, whilst enjoying a light lunch. Then we will descend into our second dive to a shallow reef where one can enjoy great visibility, many corals, nurse sharks, an abundance of small reef fish and regularly the Splendid Toadfish. The Splendid Toadfish is always a high light of the dive due to the fact that the Cozumel reefs are the only reefs in the world to harbor this amazing animal.

Returning to the island of Cozumel we will take the 16:00 ferry to be back to the dive center at Playa del Carmen at 17:00.

Due to Cozumel's currents and depth it is recommended for experienced divers only.
